Mercedes S600 Pullman (V140)

Post by AdamYip » Thu Oct 08, 2015 6:51 am

I've always loved the W140/V140 as I've driven one for over 10 years (a 1992 300SE). Although the Pullman made by NEO isn't perfect, it captures the shape of the Pullman quite well in a way.

Respect! One day I suddenly got this bug of adding all the modern production Pullmans, and added the W100, W140, VV220 & VV221 within a couple of months. I'll share the story some day...

WOW, that is a stately, impressive model Adam 8-) Going to have to seek this one out, love the colors too!

Did not realize you drove a 300 SE of this generation? To my eyes they really were the last 'real' Mercedes in terms of quality and presence even though I'm sure some would disagree. While I don't think the style is as timeless as the W126, very much admire them when seen (now rarely) on US roads.

What year and color was your car? When and where did you own it and what were your experiences in terms of maintenance and upkeep?

I keep thinking it would be fun to have either of these S classes as a 'fun' car but then maybe it would not be so fun when things break? I've read online experiences all over the map in terms of running costs and reliability :?

Wonderful model, will be on the lookout :)

Mine was a 1992 Mercedes 300SE in silver 2 tone color. I drove it from 2000 till I sold it in 2010. The car was quite reliable except for the 4 speed automatic transmission I had. The transmission broke down twice and I had it rebuilt two times during my ownership. The mechanic said it might be a design flaw. I knew an uncle that owns a 1995 S320 with the same engine and transmission from new and he said his car tends to roll back when stopping on a slope. Guess it has to do with the weight of the car. Also, its a bit under-powered during acceleration. But once you get up to highway speed, it drives like a dream. I guess the 500SEL/S500 or the later S320 with the 5 speed automatic might be a better choice.

Cheers,
Adam
