Question about 1970s 917s - the 1:1

Postby Stu935 » Wed Sep 02, 2015 3:11 pm

not sure if this is the right forum section for this question, but it's to do with race cars so here we go :)

I was looking at the Gulf livery 917s from the 1970s Daytona 24 hours and the 1970s Le Mans races. When researching photos of the 1:1s i noticed that all the 917s entered in the Daytona race have a small window above the top of the windscreen (seen in the photo below), while the Le Mans cars havethis window section omitted. Does anyone know why the window was fitted to the Daytona cars?

It's like a small sunroof so I think it was there to catch more of the famous Florida sunshine...

Actually, I have no idea.

To be able to see while in the banking of the turns Stu. They needed more viability at Daytona.
