Le Mans 24H Fans

Post by ruisousa » Thu Sep 03, 2015 10:13 am

Hi Folks,

I'm pleased to inform that my site LM24DATABASE is on-line again after 2,5 years absent.

This is a highly compreensive database where 1:43 Le Mans miniatures are listed since first edition in 1923 up today.

Good consultations.

Regards,
Rui Sousa

I am very happy that this page is back. I need something like this many times a year.

Under the Rating tab, the display for the table shows only 12 lines and it is not obvious that scrolling will show you the rest. I also think that feature should be called Value because that seems to be what you are assigning with the stars. It seems unfair that a kit from the Eighties that is crude but hard to find should receive a higher rating than a mass-produced Spark. The Spark is a better model but the kit is worth more.

Also, the numbers inside the stars don't add up to the rating. A model with three stars in two rows (2x40) and four stars in another row (40) has a rating of 110 but the numbers add up to 80.

Hi Baxter,

Thanks for your useful comments.
Is a very difficult task to rating the models. I know the trouble I get in doing that 8-) .
Some errors it may occur in a so comprehensive database (more than 12.000 entries)... and this is just a hobby to me, done in my vacant time.
Nevertheless, evaluation between rarity and reality is made looking for ebay quotations, perhaps the largest source on this matter scope.
In my personal opinion models like Mikansue John Day, FDS are the most charming ones, but ofentimes are sold on ebay just by 20/30/40 Euros or US Dollars.

You are very wellcome to develop a matrix for better rating Le Mans 1:43 models. I can use it if improves the rating evaluation.
LM24DATABASE is a non profitable site and all help is sincerely wellcome.

Regards,
Rui Sousa

Rui, thanks for the advice on the database update. Your site was a valuable resource when I first started collecting Le Mans cars, especially as many unscrupulus eBay sellers often intentionally describe non-Le Mans sportscars as Le Mans cars.

Following on from Baxter's suggestion, rather than "Value" or "Rating" which is subjective, I'd think "Accuracy" might be a more useful description for collectors.

I've re-added you to my list of Favourites.

First time i've seen that site. WOW! Immense effort - I congratulate you. You should add this to the Model Reference section of this forum.

Fantastic to have the site back Rui, I have missed it. The site is a great reference tool, not just for models but for Le Mans history in general,

Rui
Before I joined this forum I was aware of your old LM database which was a great help to me. So on joining this forum recently, I find out you have re-released and updated your database which is yet again an extremely valuable piece of information for me. Congratulations on such an important piece of work I refer to it on a regular basis.
