It was early in 1994. I think it could even be this car at this test -

The pic was gleaned from the interweb and I believe Fosters sponsored the British GP at the time. Also the B193B test car had the KTEL sponsor, whereas later B194's didn't as far as I know. Being testing in Britain - would they have been allowed to run in Ciggy sponsorship livery???

I think testing is much different to the race itself. I think the tobacco ban rules don't apply.

Here are some Silverstone test pics from 1995:

I think its great you've decided to collect JJ's cars. I think he was extremly unlucky to have a major injury during the 1994 season. Sort of like Perez going to McLaren and McLaren producing their worst car in over three decades. I was very happy when JJ won his second Le Mans and very sorry his Indycar career didn't take off either.

Ah, that settles it for me then - I now need to add the Mild Seven decals to the test car!!!

A quick pic of the two Ferrari F1 cars that JJ tested (still no pic of the 1992 test!!) together...
The 1992 F92A (Jean Alesi car) arrived this morning, the 1989 189C (Gerhard Berger car) I ordered myself for Christmas...

Both are the IXO La Storia Ferrari Collection versions - and fairly cheap alternatives to a second or third hand Minichamps...The only thing I don't like about these versions are the tin "book" type boxes they come in - not very good to display them in - I need to get a couple of cases for these...

I knew I had a 2003 Audi R8 knocking about somewhere...but would've sworn it was the ALMS #38...
Anyway, I found this at the weekend wrapped up in an old display case along with some 1:87 DTM cars (no pics yet)....I can't find the display case for it though....

More new arrivals...
Image

Image

2 Saubers - one to be converted into the testing hack and one for the early season non-Lighthouse livery, Patrese's B193B Benetton to be converted into the Lehto Estoril Test car, and the B193 in 1994 livery - which I now seem to have discovered had Mild Seven livery during testing (I'm not aiming to collect 'Presentation' cars, which it's likely that this 'test' car is).

Got them all off the same seller so shipping was minimised, all look pretty minty.

So first up should be the Yellow car to convert....

1997 McLaren's...

HPI Le Mans #42
HPI Suzuka #8
Minichamps BMW Dealer Edition FIA GT Championship #8

The minichamps holds up pretty well. The obvious differences are the flat headlights, rear air vents, fatter aerial and lack of front winglets on the Minichamps model. As such I may morph this one into the #9 that JJ shared with Peter Cox in the last round of the Championship

More BMW'ness....
This is only one of two signed models in the collection....

#11/25 and still in the cellophane wrapper!
It's an IXO on a plinth - and was expensive for what it is (plus I got stung for import tax!), but I quite like it all the same.

British roads have history. Some were built by the Romans. British road investment being what it is, they have only been re-surfaced a few times since.

I'm another that likes it. I do like special sets like that as it adds a little something to the model I feel.

Even with such a tightly defined collection subject you've managed to assemble a decent-sized collection. Really nice work and I admire your resolution to stay on topic.

@raystaggs, may i ask you, for a large photo of j.j. lethos helmet back of the season 92 or 93, if you have the helmets? i need to know the small logo that's placed near the bottom on the back of the helmet. And congrats to the Dallara :), it's an absolutely nice car in my opinion
