1994 F1 Ligier?

Post by raystaggs » Thu Nov 28, 2013 8:47 am

Hi All,

I know that Onyx released models of the Ligier JS39B, but are there any other options for a 1/43 for this racer?
Having compared Minichamps and Onyx F1 models of this time, I'm not overly keen on getting an Onyx version...

I'm looking at options for the test car Mr Lehto peddled at Paul Ricard on 15th July 1994.

Cheers,

Ryan

Just noticed an Onyx 'Göde Edition' on ebay - were these essentially the same finish/detail as the normal onyx models??

In other news, Ligier just announced an intention to return to Le Mans!

Göde is a German direct marketing company - among other things - as their site states (note that the logo is the same as on the model) :

"With over 10 million customers worldwide, GÖDE Group ranks as one of the leading direct marketing companies specializing in collectibles, and is the market leader in Europe for collectibles - in particular coins and medals."

If you search the internet for "göde modellautos" you'll find some from Minichamps as well. My guess would be they are the same level of details (perhaps even a bit less) that were made for Göde to sell direct.

Yes I'd noticed the similarly named Minichamps F1 models, often versions of cars that ran at the German GP.

I'm surprised that Tameo hasn't produced a kit...

For me the biggest weakness of the old Onyx models was the wheels. However, there are always cheap Minichamps F1 cars around on eBay, especially of the backmarkers, so if you don't want to fork out $$$ for the BBR, you could get an Onyx and a cheap Minichamps and swap the wheels over. It will never be as good as a current Spark model, but I think this would improve the Onyx 100%.

An Onyx version landed yesterday - it's ok, but decals are peeling off the rear spoiler, and it's the Bernard car - I was after the Panis car but this is effectively free, so I shouldn't complain...

Good tip re the wheels.

I recently found a pic of the car in question on a twitter page....

This is great news, as it looks like all I need to do is remove decals and add the spare driver figure 8-)

*EDIT - Balls no bargeboards on the Onyx!

One of the reasons the Onyx car looks wrong is they made it using a Williams casting.

I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it!
It will have to do for now....or until another viable option turns up - I'm not likely to modify a made kit or new spark release!
